Welcome.
The first week of the new semester is over and all I want is an engaging side project that doesn't require academic abstracts or literature reviews. So I started this.
This is a Doctor Who project blog. The project is to watch every Doctor Who everything in chronological order and write about it.
I've never even seen a single episode of the series. I can't tell you the difference between a Dalek and a Time Lord and up until mere moments ago I thought "Who" was his fucking name.
The show has been on my radar for some time now and given my interest in pop culture science fiction it's kinda shocking that it's such a blind spot for me. I love Star Trek, though I wouldn't say I'm a Trekkie. I've been into the X-Men since I was a child, but I'm not what you'd call a 'comic book reader'.
What I mean to say is I'm not a part of fan culture(s). I don't go to conventions. I don't dress up as characters. I could care less about what is or is not "cannon". Not that these things are bad, mind you, it's just not me.
Suffice it to say, this is not a fan blog. I don't even know if I'll end up liking this shit or not.
I want to go in fresh. And that's all I have to offer. Or as Baudrillard said, "You have to be a stranger to something to speak about it in
a strange—that is to say original—way." (Fragments, 1997)*
*I've always hated Baudrillard tbh.
UP NEXT: oh god what I have gotten myself into?
