I currently live in Lawrence, Kansas where I'm working on my PhD in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I study Internet porn. I call Chicago home although I was born and raised in Michigan, where the best craft beer comes from (Bell's Two-Hearted and Darkhorse Raspberry ftw).
My interests are almost exclusively film. I occasionally write a film blog (here), I maintain a Letterboxd account (here), and a film tumblr (here).
Owing to this, I'll be approaching Doctor Who from a lens of cinephilia. God that sounds pretentious. Basically, I'm more interested in an individual vision than in wholeness, continuity, or cannon. I love cinematic moments; I love how thoughts and feeling are expressed through style.
Concerning my approach to popular sci-fi: Deep Space Nine and Voyager are the best Star Treks ever. The Original Series and The Next Generation will always be more iconic (and for good reason), but DS9 and Voyager are better crafted stories.The J.J. Abrams movies are garbage, not because they're unfaithful or anything like that, but because Abrams is a hack.
